Gulfport maintains and operates a full-time, full-service communications center, which is staffed by four dispatchers and supervised by a non-sworn Police Services Supervisor. Communications personnel are responsible for processing all incoming calls to the Police Department, and they also keep track of and record police officers' activities. The communications center is equipped with computer-based, multi-line telephones, Pinellas County 911 interface, the facility's video surveillance equipment, and various local, state, and national database systems.

In 2006, dispatchers answered 41,512 telephone calls, with 1,692 of those on the 911 line.  Ninety-one times in 2006, dispatchers had to deal with multiple, simultaneous 911 calls.  In all these calls, the average time to answer the phone was less than six seconds.

The communications section was also responsible for tracking 37,612 entries into the Computer Aided Dispatch system.

The communications center can be reached 24 hours per day, seven days per week at (727) 893-1030 (all calls are recorded). In case of an emergeny, please dial 911.
