School Crossing Guards
In order to help make the school walk routes safer for our children, the Gulfport Police Department employs six school crossing guards, who have been certified through a Florida Department of Transportation training course.  The guards provide a safety role as well as an educational role, teaching children how to safely cross the streets and to use the pedestrian traffic control devices.

Our community policing philosophy extends to the crossing guards as well, because each of them spends time working with the local elementary school.  This way, they also develop essential police/community partnerships which improve the safety and well-being of all our residents.
