Commercial Burglar Arrested

Thomas Diggs (45) of Gulfport, was arrested by the St. Petersburg Police Department and charged with several commercial burglaries, including one at the Gulfport Kwik Stop convenience store.

Early Thursday morning, Gulfport Police responded to a burglary alarm at the Kwik Stop store, located at 53rd Street and Gulfport Blvd.  They found that the front door had been pried open and that the cash register was gone.  The surveillance video recorded the act, and a description of the suspect was provided to neighboring officers in St. Petersburg.

It turned out that the same man (identified as Thomas Diggs) had also burglarized several stores in St. Petersburg, and he was apprehended after an officer found evidence of the crimes in the car while conducting a traffic stop.  Gulfport officers were able to obtain information which connected Diggs to the Gulfport crime, and they recovered the cash register, which had been dumped behind another store near 5th Avenue South.

Including the Gulfport case, Diggs was charged with four counts of burglary, possession of burglary tools, grand theft, possession of crack cocaine, and loitering and prowling.
