Student Arrested With Gun in Car at School

Gulfport--School Resource Officer Jason Motte located a firearm on the campus of Boca Ciega High School after intervening in an altercation between two students.  While speaking with the two students involved, Officer Motte obtained information that there may be a weapon in the vehicle of one of the students.  Officer Motte obtained permission from a parent to search the vehicle in question, and he discovered a firearm in the trunk of the vehicle.  This firearm was reported stolen out of the city of Clearwater, and investigators with both agencies are cooperating in returning the firearm to the owner.  The firearm was a .380 semi auto pistol which was loaded with one bullet.  Shemar O. Scarlett  3/15/96, was charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds, which is a felony.  It is unclear at this time if the student was involved in the theft of the firearm.
