07/07/09   Gulfport Police Achieve Third Consecutive Reaccreditation
Bonita Springs, FL:  By unanimous vote of the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA), the Gulfport Police Department was reaccredited on July 1st in Bonita Springs.  This is the agency’s third reaccreditation, putting it among the elite of Florida law enforcement.  Less than ten percent of agencies statewide have achieved triple reaccreditation.”

The Commission requires an assessment every three years after the initial accreditation.  The Gulfport Police Department's assessment was conducted in April. During the onsite Lieutenant  Robert Vincent was the Interim Police Chief and Sergeant Mary Farrand was the accreditation manager for the Gulfport Police Department. In a memorandum presented to the Lieutenant Vincent, by Peg Gant, the Executive Director and Ken Mascara, the Chair of the Commission, it stated " You and your agency are to be commended for your continued diligence, professionalism, andcommitement in maintaining the highest recognition among Florida's law enforcement community.

In recognition of the City Council’s support of the Police Department in the accreditation process, Interim Police Chief Coombs will give a presentation at the August  4 regular Council meeting.

Each accreditation period is three years, so this process will take place again in 2012.
