Man Found Dead in House Fire

At 12:25 this morning, firefighters and paramedics from Gulfport, St. Petersburg, and Treasure Island responded to a 911 call indicating that the house at 2800 45th Street South was on fire.  As fire teams worked to supress the fire and clear the house, they found a resident (Robert Brand) in what appeared to be a garage apartment.  Despite immediate and continuous efforts, medics were unable to revive Brand, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Brand (75) lived in the house with another elderly man, but he was out of town at the time.  Neighbors have indicated that Brand suffered from numerous ailments requiring that he use an oxygen tank.  At this time, it is not known if the oxygen may have been a cause of the fire.

Investigators from the Florida State Fire Marshal's Office, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, the Medical Examiner's Office, and the Gulfport Police Department are working to determine how the fire may have started.
