Student arrested at Boca Ciega High School for possession of a firearm
On 09/05/12, a female student received a series of odd text messages from another male student, who also attends Boca Ciega High School. The male is a 17 year old in the 11th grade. They were texting back and forth about meeting. Due to the nature of the texts, SRO's were alerted to the possibility of harm to others at the school due to some of the texts informing her about a lockdown. The Gulfport School Resource Officer's responded to the male's classroom and escorted the student back to the SRO office where they subsequently located and removed a loaded .380 semi automatic pistol from his backpack. The student claims to have gotten the firearm from a safe from within his home where, in the past, he observed his mother punch in the code without her knowledge. He used that code to gain access to the firearm and took it to school. During an interview with the SRO's, he stated that he intended on shooting himself after school and wasn't
going to harm anyone but himself. The student was taken into protective custody and will be charged with possession of a firearm on school property.
