1/20/2009  Carjacking Suspects Arrested

GULFPORT, FL – Gulfport Police charged two St. Petersburg youth with being a principal to armed carjacking.  Tavaris Bradford and Amir Samuels, both 16 years old, were apprehended after fleeing from St. Petersburg officers at approximately 5:00 PM on 1/18/09.

The car, a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu, had been stolen the night before in the 5100 block of Tangerine Avenue in Gulfport.  The victim reported that he had just pulled into his driveway when he was attacked by four black, male teenagers who had driven up in a blue minivan.  One of them had a gun and struck the victim in the head after taking his car keys.

Shortly after the carjacking on 1/17, Sergeant Joshua Stone of the Gulfport Police Department saw the Malibu driving south in the 1000 block of 49th Street.  When he tried to pull the car over, the driver fled, initiating a pursuit that ended at 40th Avenue South and 31st Street when the sergeant lost sight of the car.

Samuels was also charged with fleeing and eluding police.  The other two offenders have not yet been identified, but detectives are still investigating.
