Narrative
Gulfport, FL— On 08/05/24 at approximately 1234pm, the Gulfport Police Department was made aware of a missing boater, 48 year old male named Brian J. Clough.
Mr. Clough anchored his sailboat approximate 50 feet from Gulfport's Veterans Park and was anchored there through tropical storm Debby. Also aboard the vessel was Clough's dog. Another man from the local boating community saw Mr. Clough's vessel had partially sunk during the late morning hours of 08/05 and noticed Clough's dog still aboard the vessel. The man also searched some of the vessel for Clough but he was not found.
The Gulfport Police Department has checked with the local boating community but Clough has not yet been located. When weather conditions improve, additional resource will be used in the search. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Brian Clough are asked to contact the Gulfport Police Department at 727-582-6177.
Update: GPD has received many calls regarding the below release. Many of you received information that a deceased body was recovered. I can confirm that is accurate and a positive identification of that deceased person has been made, however, I cannot provide you with the name of that person until the next of kin notification has been made. Due to complications in notifying the NOK, this will likely be done in the morning of 08/06/24. We will update this release once that is completed.
This is an active, ongoing investigation; however, the preliminary investigation does not indicate any foul play is involved in this person's death.
Update: Next of kin has been notified and I can now confirm that Brian Clough has been located deceased in his boat. His body has been taken to the Pinellas County Medical Examiner's Office for further examination.
